sisyphus216Really powerfulI listened to this podcast while going through RCIA, to learn more about this painful chapter in church history. It’s powerful and well made. I think of the quote “what’s mine to do, and no one else’s” at least once a week. Highly recommend.

CatholicLionKingThank youI listened to the survivor stories and their testimony was heartbreaking but I am grateful they shared their struggle to reveal the truth. I hope this podcast helps challenge men who want to be priests to get their minds in the right track.

pbreisingerBishop Barron’s bookI became interested in your podcast since reading Robert Barron’s book Letter to a Suffering Church. He’d be a great guest

Eddy TonyA thoughtful and engaging exploration of the Catholic abuse crisisThis is a great podcast that is accessible and rewarding to both Catholics and non-Catholics, regardless of the listeners’ spirituality, and approaches its sensitive subject with the respect and professionalism it deserves, all while maintaining an all round earnest yet neutral tone. It is deeply informative and well-rounded in its discussions about the church’s history, culture, theology and ecclesiastical structure while maintaining its primary focus on the human element, especially when it features several abuse survivors tell their stories. Each episode builds on each to get at the larger picture of what the abuse crisis reflects about the church, what is being done and what should be done to address it.

MBFegerWell Done!Listening to Deliver Us was akin to eating an over cooked, soggy serving of vegetables. I know it’s good for me, but it’s hard to swallow. Yet, mixed in there are spoonfuls if well salted, peppered and buttered morsels that make the distasteful worth eating. The podcast anticipated every question I had pop in my mind after listening to a segment and answered it well. Thank you for a well thought out and polished podcast.

FUS2013Wishing for moreEvery episode left me with new insights, but I felt most of the information was already known to anyone well-read on the crisis. This podcast was good, but left me with some regrets. Wish it addressed the 1985 document alerting bishops to child sex abuse in the Church. Wish they put greater emphasis on how clericalism among clerics is much more insidious than clericalism among the laity. (As it is right now, it sounds a little victim blame-y.) Wish they hadn’t provided a shoutout to Renew International’s “Healing Our Church,” as a quick look shows that it was not made with victims of clerical sex abuse in mind. Grateful this podcast exists and appreciate most of it, but still wish it were better.

Mark BelenchiaThe LaityThis podcast has got some compelling elements. But, only a few laity will listen to. Most active Catholics only hear the PR spin put out by their diocese. Shows like this are off limits to most Catholics because they choose ignorants over knowledge. It's to painful to be informed about the sick underbelly of the Church leadership and their double strategy, passive to the public, brutal to survivors....

Tammy M-GHopeful & InspiringI am a Catholic Convert (2003) and came across this listening to another podcast. I’ve never really been able to articulate to my non-Catholic family & friends how I could “stay in a church that could do that to children” but you have given me the words, hope and the inspiration to speak. You’ve also given me the Church as my home and family in a way that I hadn’t appreciated it yet. MANY THANKS for all you’ve done an I pray that many will hear this.

kmcbridehpHope for a Healing ChurchIn a time of great suffering in our Church, these episodes brought me to tears but also brought me hope. Thank you to those who worked to bring this podcast to us and for all of the effort you put into making this!

newyork10rAn incredibly difficult topic to discuss, but done soberly and compassionately in this podcastThis podcast is incredibly well done. This is a very difficult topic to deal with as a Catholic myself, but the editorial voice brought to bear here by Maggi and her team is excellent - they’ve done an incredible ministry for the church.

Craftyjess8A Must for EVERY CatholicHard to listen to but extremely necessary. This complicated and upsetting issue is broken down into manageable pieces. Thank you for your work!

RichardradThis podcast deserves a 6-star review"Deliver Us" is deeply honest, brave, and profoundly moving. All of the episodes lead to a much better understanding of the appalling sex abuse crisis in the Catholic Church. As a non_Catholic and a journalist, I have deep respect for the reporting and truthtelling here. Each episode is well-edited. The music is beautiful and at times haunting. Told from the perspective of a Catholic woman who is both saddened and outraged by the scandal, we learn first-hand of the suffering of victims, the horrendous behavior of some clergy, and attempts within the Church to learn vital lessons from what has happened. Podcasting at its finest.

Jose-SecaucusGraciasThanks. Keep doing this job. It is helping me to process and to pray. Two notes: 1/ I was not able to complete the Fortney sisters episode. 2/ the last tow episode were not the best, they were confusing. As this really is. But everything else was useful, clear, and needed.

S. Patrice WrightDeliver usThis podcast has been invaluable to me, Maggie. I am struggling deeply with the organization which is the Catholic Church. I wasn’t sure how I could continue in my church with this horrific veil of abuse & silence. I can’t help but look @ every priest & wonder? Are you an abuser? Could you have been the one to look the other way & ignored the sexual abuse & moved a priest. Could you have been one to not protect the most vulnerable among us & our future? Thank you Maggie, although my heart is broken, your podcast has helped me tremendously to have an understanding that there is hope in humanity. The organization of our church; well that I’m not sure, but w/ Mother Mary through her son Jesus Christ & the help of the Holy Spirit, I must believe in that little glimmer that shines through the broken places. I know now that I too, am nothing without my faith & these people . Gratefully, Susan

bob6288Difficult but importantI have found this series difficult to listen to at times but extremely well-done and thought-provoking. It has made me think that I might be able to be part of the change in the church instead of leaving it.

Happycamper457Thank youVery thoughtfully and expertly done.

FoggydellMaking sense of it allListening to this podcast is helping me process all the pieces. Thank you for walking us through this mess. I will continue to recommend Deliver Us to friends.

John TerrificExtremely HelpfulAs a lay employee of the Catholic Church in Pennsylvania, this podcast has helped me process my own righteous anger while still feeling called to serve in the Church. I’ve found solace in hearing victims stories, especially the Fortney sisters who are from my diocese. While it’s difficult to hear it’s extremely important that I hear their voice and give them space to share it. That’s what will benefit the Church, not PR companies or bishops who are aloof.

MEEMEPDeep UnderstandingThis podcast is invaluable for understanding the twin crises in the Church of sex abuse and corresponding cover up. Thank you for the high-quality reporting and very listenable format. I have read a lot of stories from many sources and I being provided new insights. Thank you for producing it.

janbrownmcEwenbalanced well researched and hopeI am not a young Catholic but have struggled with the abuse issue since 2002. Why do I stay? Why don't I leave? Is the church truly Christian? How can this evil be tolerated? These and so many more questions are at the heart of this outstanding podcast. I've been an America Magazine reader since the 80s and now I have a new help thanks to America Medea. Thank you so much. Sent

Jbo99Excellent!Deliver Us is a phenomenal piece of journalism. This is the conversation that the World has been waiting for to begin the deeper conversations that the Church must have to begin to heal from this atrocity. Within the difficult and painful stories lie the seeds of true reconciliation and growth.

teos3246Impossible to Put DownI have been listening avidly since I heard about the first episode on Jesuitical. Every time a new episode is posted, I immediately download it. I have also roped my family into listening along/catching up when we’re in the car together. This is such an important part of the conversation for us as we struggle with the ongoing revelations of abuse within the Church. Thank you for being so thoughtful and compassionate in making this podcast and telling these stories!

NH party of 5How then shall we live?My involvement in first year program at my Jesuit college (25 years ago!) helped me form questions about my faith in action. The crises going on in the church has given me pause to ask in this world filled with grave evil amongst the faithful, how then shall I live? This podcast is helping me to understand pieces of “what happened” and where do we go from here? I am empowered to not turn my back on where my faith journey has brought me, but to look forward with a passion to be true to my self... So I can reclaim my faith and shine on to be a woman for others!

GDCrowderA podcast of true encounterThough challenging to hear, as any podcast of this subject matter would be, this podcast is doing an excellent job of providing us an avenue to walk with the victims and understand more about the sex abuse crisis in the Church. Thank you America Media and Maggi Van Dorn for this podcast.

Vivian IvetteWe need Deliver Us right now.Deliver Us is the important conversation we need to be having right now. Thank you for engaging with this difficult topic and providing a ray of hope for the church.

Daniel GioHow Can I Remain Catholic? This is the same question I am afraid to ask my parents who are more devoted to the church than ever in their retirement years. Thank you for shedding light on such an important issue that is happening within such a powerful organization.

VAmomof5Learn something newVery informative and uses surprising statistics. She asks the questions we’ve all wanted to ask.

T2bzofreeAre you out of your mind?I must admit that when I heard you interviewed, I thought that you must be out of your mind for tackling such a sensitive topic. I think hat there would be a temptation to either look for only the good or only the bad in this situation, and this has felt very balanced and very well researched. I was afraid to listen for fear that it would be just too much, but I felt it was important to hear. Your sensitively to this topic is really appreciated. Thanks for the deep dive. I look forward to more episodes.
-
bilgudI am not aloneThis excellent podcast helped me to realize that there are other lifelong Catholics who, like me, struggle to remain in the Church despite all the hypocrisy and nastiness coming from some of the clerical elite. I’d be gone if it wasn’t for Pope Francis. Thanks, Maggie
-
ssurgalskiGreat First PodcastJust finished listening. Excited to hear more. It is helpful and heartening to know that younger Catholics are not only struggling with these difficult topics, but trying to stay and fight for change from within. Looking forward to the rest of this!

eleanorjbSomething I haven't heard beforeAs a Catholic trying to reckon with the abuse crisis in her own community, host Maggi Van Dorn offers a different perspective from the headlines we see in the news everyday. Most importantly, Deliver Us puts survivors at the center of the conversation. I look forward to the second episode.

Lordmaul1A bold approach to a difficult subjectThis podcast goes beyond headline reporting to ask how catholics can remain in their church and work for change after a history of abuse. The host, a practicing catholic, is honest and open about her personal struggle to reckon with the crisis, giving the show a powerful backbone. I'm very excited to hear the hard work of the producers bringing a new focus to the future of the church. Well done by all!
-
c_freeInteresting!I hope this helps to bring greater transparency, peace and healing to the church. It sounds like it will!

NFM727timelyAfter listening to the trailer I am excited for the premiere. There is a hole in media about this exact issue- we dont know how the system is broken to allow the horros to have occurred. How can we fix it? Very much looking forward to the premiere.
