nostalgia82Could be much betterI can honestly say that I really want to like this podcast but it seriously lacks professionalism. There is way too much name calling and goofing by the host who really doesn't have anything interesting to add to the conversation. Some of the of his guests are informative and interesting to listen to but sadly the majority of these experiences are pointless jibber jabber and plagued with audio issues and dead air.

TFG1MikeThank You All!!!HEY RJL1 ..... thanks for the feedback, but...... this show lives in a time capsule now.... ToonCast Classic has been retired since 2011. It's still here so anyone can find our early work, but we have gone beyond it! So checking mic levels can't be done now. But we have greatly improved our audio wuality since this show! Check out ToonCast Beyond, when you fine listeners have the chance. Thank you to all the listeners of ToonCast Classic! I'm happy that most of you enjoyed what we did with the podcast. Linnie G. I suggest you listen to more then just one episode. In order to give us a fair review. We did do our research, we also most of the time spent days, and weeks watching the cartoons again before recording. The basis behind the podcast was discussing cartoons we grew up with. There are times when we did read from wikipedia in the beginning, but Ep 50 onward is more of a discussion. Again thank you to everyone who has supported us!!! -TFG1Mike Producer, Co-Creator The GeekCast Radio Network

ManInTimeOh ChildhoodThis is the podcast that got me to this network it is on. I left for awhile and came back to find their podcasts have gotten even better. This is a good cartoon for anyone who grew up in the 80's or 90's watching cartoons.

RJL1Set the mic levels.Ok show. Yet it seems no one can set mic levels and the engineer of the show has never heard of a compressor. Keep trying.

pistolekrisA disappointment for animation fans.As someone who is already a huge fan of animated films, I was excited to dive into this podcast to hear some insights on some of my favorite movies and tv shows. However, this podcast from GeekCast is rather poorly assembled, and lacks imagination and passion. First off, the hosts sound, in most episodes, as if they've just trucked out of bed. With an almost bored delivery, they spend the first few minutes discussing what's going on in their personal lives, which I don't mind so much, but I haven't much context for who these people are and they do little to provide it. They then lazily read from an online plot synopsis about the film, sounding at the best like they are reading it for the first time and at worst, as if they haven't even heard of the movies they're talking about. I'm a fan of the Lion King, I don't need to hear a plot synopsis on it that I could just read online. I remember one podcast, where someone seemed like they were off guard when talking about what they liked about certain film. "it's awesome... and yeah.. just love it." I'd love to hear a more capable podcast featuring true animation nerds, who geek out and passionately discuss and dissect the films and shows from Disney to everything else. Sadly, this is little more than casual information.

LinnieGIt's called research, guys. Learn to do it.I had heard a lot of great things about your Cartoon podcast, so I decided to give it a listen. I was thrilled when I discovered that you'd done an episode on my all-time favorite cartoon, "Underdog," so I decided to listen to that one first...then I wasn't so thrilled. I get that not everybody likes "Underdog." It's goofy. It's stupid. It's badly animated. However, the story behind the show is infinitely more interesting than the actual show itself. I'd recommend picking up "How Underdog Was Born" by Buck Biggers and Chet Stover. They tell the story behind the creation of the TV show and what inspired them, and they discuss their rivalry with Jay Ward (creator of "Rocky and Bullwinkle"). I didn't listen to this entire episode; I had mentally checked out some time during the rant about the "Transformers" franchise (which lasted roughly thirteen minutes). The guys running this podcast kept getting distracted and going off-topic; they also didn't do a whole lot of research when putting this thing together (a large chunk of what I listened to consisted of them asking each other which studio produced "Underdog," making me wonder why no one bothered to look this up before hand). I give this two stars because I don't care enough about it to hate it, but I won't be listening to any more episodes.

zxzeroIdeas for ShowsI have a couple of shows that you could review I know your looking for old cartoon shows but what about some newer shows like Transformers Prime,Any of the newer Gi-joes Renagades, or Sigma six or Voltron

G_RivToo ambitious. It's always great to hear analysis, trivia, and personal memories of the cartoons I love. Unfortunately, many episodes of this podcast are hamstrung by a lack of focus and preparation. Awkward silences abound and the absence of any on-air charisma often hits the listener in the face. It's clear that the host(s) lack a strong personal relationship with many of the cartoons, and listening to folks read a Wikipedia page isn't very entertaining. The series would have been much improved if the hosts limited it to series/films for which they had a true passion.

Writingaddict169Amazing WorkI'm actually really sad that I never listened to this podcast until now. I would have loved to leave a voicemail!! Anyways, ToonCast is an amazing show where the hosts know what they are talking about and prove that cartoons aren't just for kids. Granted, they get off topic at times, but, honestly, we would all do that if we were on a podcast that has great chemistry between the cast such as this one. GCRN does amazing work with everything they touch, and I'm glad this was my introduction to the network :)

Yensid4030Tooncast, a facsinating look on cartoons.Tooncast, a good podcast that's well thought up and an interestingly insightful look on none other than anything animation related. Tough, not much of a historian podcast, more of a labor of love look on the animated movies that made up the both the animation industry that it developed and the childhoods of those who cherished it so. For it's strengths, the well researched history segments are great, I love the discussion on how the movies/shows made an impact either critically, commercially, or for the notable legendary status and cult following. The Interviews with voice actors, writers and producers are really cool and seem to dig deep into their opinions on their work and their impact. The weaker points (sorry if to sound nitpicky), would be Tarah's Valley Girl accent (if around a long time),Steve, the host's own bad editorial of the recordings of people talking, bad quality sound and sometimes some offbeat reviewing on some of the movies. (For Example, The Snow White review didn't focus on the structure of the plot, character structure, or themes, instead the dark elements are overanalyzed too much tough, but the history segment makes up for it.) The Lion King review is a superb look on the anylysis of the trilogy and it's legacy. Overall, it's worthy of listening to.

eflorendoWanted to love the podcast, but ended up being frustrated with it.Let me preface my review with this statement: I wanted to love this podcast, but just couldn't get over some major flaws. One of my biggest gripes with this podcast is that most of the information sounded like it was being read off of Wikipedia. I understand the fact that Wikipedia has a ton of information, but at least summarize it. While I appreciate the fact that the hosts re-watched some of the shows they were discussing, it's a little disappointing that they don't take notes...or at least it didn't sound like they did. Probably the major flaw with this podcast is the audio quality. I'm not sure if they listened to the podcast back before posting it on the web, but some of the episodes are just plain unlistenable. I was so excited to listen to the Aladdin episode, but when Kevin started to talk, I couldn't even understand a word he was saying. It was all static. So frustrating. I do however, love the interviews. Those were the episodes that had very little Wikipedia in it, like the Jason Marsden interview -- that was awesome. And the audio for the most part, was okay. I also liked that there was a regular format for most episodes and that Kevin brought some unique perspectives when it came to the voice actors. I hope the hosts read this and take it as constructive criticism rather than a total negative review. At the time of this review, they are approaching 100 episodes and there is a reason they have been able to accomplish that. I just hope that when they do the "Beyond" reboot that the audio quality has improved and that there will be more than just reading Wikipedia. 4 stars for the idea, 2 stars for the actual execution, 5 stars for actually getting as far as they got and keeping me wanting to listen, even if I couldn't hear what was being said.

Toonmania74ToonCast -ic!Ever since TfG1 Mike Blanchard began with his TFG1 Podcast and then the genesis of the Geek Cast Radio Network with his partner in crime Steve "Megatron" Phillips, podcasts has never been the same. I currently subscribe to 35 different podcasts, ranging from Disney, Retro Cartoons,Comics, and Wrestling (ok, nobody's perfect), and I'm pleased to say the GEEK CAST RADIO NETWORK! My favorite of them all is "TOONCAST", I have been a loyal listener since episode 00! Everytime I listen to an episode, I find myself answering, correcting, agreeing, and arguing with the guys (and girl-Tara "The Risingstar") like if we were in the same room and we were all long time friends. I love the format to the show, the variety of interviews, clips and the love (or hatred) the hosts bring to the shows they review. I have highly recomended ToonCast to friends, and now to you. Kevin "The Professor" aka "Optimusolo" Thomson, the genius behind "Behind the Voice Actors" Website, (I didn't forget about you!) is "Robin", to Mike's "Batman", in which they both play off each other so perfectly that it makes a great show to hear! Looking forward to "ToonCast Beyond" (Or more appropriately 65 years into the future!!!) Make Mine GCRN!

foch41TooncastI love listening but im hoping for rocko's modern life, beavis and butthead, flintstones, jetsons, ren and stimpy, maybe even the dumb and dumber cartoon series (that was under rated) almost forgot Doug, Futurama, Taz-mania, King of the Hill. Your pod cast helps me through the work week, im glad you are doing tooncast beyond!

BosskdawgReviewer is the Ignorant OneApparently Waltmanxp has not listened to GeekCastRadio very long!! He claims that writers and producers won't come on the podcast!! Larry DiTillio, Bob Skir, Maurice LeMarche, Rob Paulsen, Larry Kenney, Kristy Marx, Tara Strong, and many more have come on the GCRN and given interviews so not sure what exactly he is talking about!! Also, this is not a podcast about children's literature it is about CARTOONS! It is labeled explicit so you can't complain about the language either. Sorry it is not what you were looking for but your comments only make you seem like the ignorant one waltman! Also @ Foch41, first of all we covered both Flintstones, Jetsons and Super Mario so go back and find those episodes. Also, Our timeframe was only up until the 90s so look for some of those other shows in a future podcast from us :)

Grimaulkin77Keep the personal life out of it.I really enjoyed this podcast. It's well researched, interesting. I love the history behind the cartoons, how they fit into the history of animation and history in general. I really enjoy hearing each one of you talk about what your least and most favorite characters are. I would have given it five stars, except for two reasons:1) Steve, stop cutting people off. I understand you're the facilitator, you're the host and it's your podcast, dammit. You can swear up a storm if you want to. But it's like shifting subjects without a clutch and it detracts from the whole show. There's times when you're reading from a script and when you do, you're not very excited about it. We can tell. 2) Tarah: Is she the producer's girlfriend or something? It's good to have a female geek perceptive, yes. However her Valley Girl accent and sighs really, REALLY get on my nerves. Her best performance was when she left voicemail. She has a good voice when she reads: it's clear and easy to understand. But otherwise, she comes across as a ditz. If she would tone down the accent, not talk so fast, or at least prepare her statements, I think she'd be a lot better. She hasn't shown any geek cred yet, just a lot of opinions, which is all right for her position, I suppose.

ilovealf88Informal and entertainingI especially like the shows on Disney and Hannah-Barbara properties. Why all the hate from Kevin on Dexter's Lab? That show has always amused me.

C MaximusYoung and LearningHey I wanted to give a review back on your Popeye review, but iTunes would not allow me to, I think my computer was acting up. Mike, you and Kevin have done amazing works, not just with ToonCast, but with your other GeekCast Radio Network podcast. I also have to give credit to some of your guest hosts you both allowed on the show, they bring a touch of their own personallity to the show. I grew up in the early 90s, so I recieved the tail-end on some of the material you guys have covered. However thanks to the coverage you guys have provided has sparked an interest in me to view the animations on my own time and appriciate them, none the less. As for your current podcast Alice in Wonderland, excellent work guys, I viewed this movie a few years back and I didn't catch the drug references at all. You guys are doing an awesome job and I look foward for your next Disney Spotlight, Peter Pan. P.S. (I know this is old news for you guys) Scrappy Rules! Thundercats beats Silverhawks anyday. And not all Disney Sequals are bad, and thank you Kevin for finally seeing that.

robyn280Tooncast is a fun look back!SO glad I found this podcast! I've almost caught up on the episodes and gotta say it's my favorite of all the geeky podcasts I listen to. =) These guys do their homework, know their stuff, and bring their sense of humor as well. Yeah, it's explicit but we all aren't 9 years old anymore so it's not a huge deal. I've heard worse language at family gatherings, lol. Thanks for putting out an entertaining podcast!
-
waltmanxpPainfully ignorantI heard a few episodes like titan AE, Richie rich, Jem, Pinocchio, what I was expecting to hear was cartoon nostalgia from the 80’s, 90’s with interviews from the people who produced the cartoons maybe even inviting Jerry Beck on for a Q and A or at least inviting someone who has any knowledge in cartoon animation but instead what I hear was a bunch of foul mouth perverts talking about the cartoons they grew up with, which is probably why writers and producers won’t come on the podcast, it’s indisputably obvious that the geekcast guys are clueless in the subject of children's literature, the review of Pinocchio proves that, you can get all the cartoon information you need from Wikipedia without the explicit language, porn reference or ignorance

ToonMasterTimCartoon Lovers Listen Up!Fans of cartoons from the 80s, 70s, 60s and earlier (many of which ran in syndication later) will feel right at home with this podcast. I discovered the podcast around episode 70, but I have since eagerly gone back to listen to the older episodes. The show has a good format: a history lesson of the show with little-known facts, a discussion about the show based on the memories of the hosts, and the legacy the show has had since airing. As a listener I feel like I am a participant in the show. Not having many friends to discuss my love for these shows I grew up with that were such an important part of my childhood. If you enjoy this show, check out other shows from the GeekCast Radio Network.

Fisch86FantasticI'm a big fan, thank you so much for reexciting my love for my childhood

"They'reHere"Great podcast...for a look back at 80s cartoon nostalgia. This would be a 5 star podcast if it weren't for the horrible sounding audio. It's fun to listen to this podcast, but they seriously need to correct the audio before putting them out there. Some people you can hear, but most of the time it's either too loud w/static or voices are so low you have to constantly adjust the volume to hear somone speak. That is my only gripe, but otherwise it is a good podcast.

artofkevinA Toon-Tastic Listen!ToonCast is an excellent show about classic cartoons. They provide an excellent adult perspective on cartoons that helped shape the industry. If you are looking to reminisce on your childhood favorites, or learn more about what made them great, ToonCast is a must listen.

GwargasmDuck TalesDuck Tales was my all-time favorite cartoon ever made.

Big Ron Ha Ha!listen to your own podcastThese guys do have interesting opinions and I have tried to enjoy their work... the only problem is that their levels are so uneven and the sound quality of most of their plug ins are so poor, I find it distracting from the topic. I know its a free show and they are not using professional editing equipment, but that's my major complaint on what could be a podcast. I am a little older than the crew, but watched these shows when I was in the Navy. Overall enjoyable
-
Jam2169Nice job guysI also listen to the transformers g1 podcast by Mikey and it's pretty darn good. I like this toon cast also because you do so many different cartoons from our youth. I really like the he man episode it really indepth great job. I like your take on the shows especially how funny you guys are when you point out how silly some of these cartoons cAn be. Anyway keep it up. Can you just curse a little less. I know I am a prude but just a humble request. You guys rock though. ThAnsl for making these podcasts And bringing back some good memories
-
TaterXYeah!Another great show by the folks at Geekcast Radio. Listen to the He-Man and Thundercats episodes to get started.
