The Sacred

21

The Sacred is a podcast about our deepest values, the stories that shape us and how we can build empathy and understanding between people who are very different. Each episode features a conversation with someone who has a public voice, from academics to journalists, playwrights and politicians. We ask them where they have come from, what they are trying to do and what might help heal our very divided public conversations. The Sacred is hosted by Elizabeth Oldfield, former director of Theos. Enjoyed my first episode!
In terms of being drawn to people like ourselves: I highly recommend Richard Rohrs teaching/4 podcast series about “The Cosmic Egg”. It’s a paradigm or teaching tool— we need all 3 parts of the Egg. The inner is My Story. The middle part of the Egg is Our Story (all our groups and affiliations) and the outermost part is The Story. Without one or the other we never achieve spiritual wholeness. It’s truly a wonderful map and invitation to grow outside of ourselves and even our groups— to find and revere all of humanity and God’s creation/entire cosmos.

    We need more of this
To me, conversation and communication are sacred, so it does my soul good to hear vulnerable humans-- humans who often come from different worlds-- hold that value up in an effort to grow. Just through listening, I have too.

    Such a beautiful podcast
I love The Sacred so much. The graphic for the show is gorgeous, the intro music fills me with peace and the opening question “what is sacred for you” opens my heart and spurs my curiosity. 💛💛💛

    Watering deep springs
So glad to discover “The Sacred.” I don’t think I realized how much I needed what these conversations offer. In podcast Babylon, these voices cut through. I’m deeply grateful. And as of today, thinking harder about what o hold acts - and how to listen better to voices outside my own tribe. Thank you.

Reflections on what matter in life
love this podcast! it’s thoughtful and deeply peaceful - a moment of meditation in my day to consider what’s really important - a nice break from the horrible news. particularly enjoyed your interview with David Kruger - i have a few new books to add to my reading list now :)

    Thank you
While an MPhil student at Cambridge, a friend recommended this podcast to me. I’m an American and a thoroughly jaded Christian, and so I don’t get a lot of well-reasoned, understanding, or even just calm conversation or digital content that’s not entirely given up to some idealistic campaign. So this podcast was something of a first for me. What I enjoy about it is that it is trying to get precisely at the grounds for peace-making conversation while also actually having those conversations itself. A humble thank you to everyone involved.

    I like the metaness
A nice podcast! I disagree with the idea that we don't communicate across difference well at this point in history, but I do agree that we need to learn how to communicate better. Could we have the volume on the guests with lower voices turned up a bit? Thanks!
