    A wealth of knowledge
As a newbie in the world of scanning I began listening to this podcast starting at episode one, each episode teaching a new topic in a fun and detailed way. You will learn something even if you have been scanning for years.

Excellent podcast and more for scanner radios fans
This podcast channel and all the associated resources Phil has put together through his scanner school website and related social media sites are superb and fill a need that many of us scanner enthusiasts maybe didn’t even realize existed!. Though I’ve been a licensed ham for many years, after listening to just a few of these podcasts, I’ve already learned details about the hobby that have eluded me for a long time Phil’s down to earth style is excellent and welcoming to all regardless of skill level. I’m looking forward to catching up on two plus years worth of podcasts as well as taking his SDR course. Thanks Phil!

    More Than A Podcast
I had been in the hobby before and when the times kept us home I looked at it again. I started looking and found that what I knew wasn’t current. Ordered new scanner and was amazed how complicated they could appear. Not many resources as well developed as Scanner School. Started at the beginning of podcasts and felt as if my knowledge level increased to be able to use the new radio. Now I have the hobby bad and monitor multiple areas of interest. Not all podcasts apply to my areas of interests but are extremely informative and well produced.

    Great Podcast and More!
Not only do I thoroughly enjoy Phil's podcast, but I recently finished a consulting session with him to help with my scanner set up and it was amazing!! Saved me many hours on my own and even had I done so, I would not have gotten nearly as far as I did with a simple call/screen share. Phil's knowledge base is tremendous and I would not hesitate to recommend him to others!

    Great fundamentals, history, and technology
I have really enjoyed this entire series. Phil really understands scanning and explains it in a way that everyone can understand a somewhat complex technology. Easy enough to start as a beginner and good information for those that I’ve been involved for a long time. The choice of topics always is interesting and I always learn something I can use. I even listen to some episodes over and over to get the notes and comments down. Highly recommend this as a favorite in your podcast library.

    Very good, but...
One of the few scanner-related podcasts that’s lasted more than a few episodes, though we’ll see how much longer the host can come up with topics for. I’ve been in the hobby for 40 years now, but still learn things from the host & his guests. The downside: Not all the guests really are knowledgeable/experienced enough to speak intelligently about the topic they were brought-on to speak about (the military-aviation monitoring guest speaker is a good example). What started off as a podcast by a fellow-hobbyist is now evolving into a big production, resulting in some of the podcast’s time now being spent by the host gently asking for monetarism “donations,” and “rewarding” those who donate by giving their names out in the podcast, plus the host’s commercials for paid “consulting” sessions. It’s the host’s right to do all that, but more & more it seems to devolve from a labor of love by a guy we can relate to, to a for-profit business hosted by someone doing it in the hopes of making money off it.

    I love Scanner School
I have had a "Police Scanner" for 50 years. At 9 my grandfather bought a Bearcat 1 and I have been listening to a radio ever since. Although I am a Ham Radio Operator, been in broadcasting since 1977 I still look forward to this podcast. I learn something from almost every podcast. I appreiacte the time and effort Phil puts into it and it is an easy listen and with the website, a perfect resource for a long time scanner user or a brand new one. Thank you Phil!

    Love the hobby...
Why, why didn’t I think of that? :). Very informative podcast about scanner radios. I thought I knew a lot about the scanner radio hobby, but I learn more each podcast.

    Best scanner podcast!
If your new to the hobby or have been listening many years this is the place to get your questions answered. Always something new to learn in every episode. This is the class to be in.
  • Hightower007
Worst scanner podcast - paid for by uniden
This guy fails to call out uniden for their bad/defective new scanners. Every episode is filled with errors and just false information that true scanner users can clearly notice and call out in a heartbeat. There are way better scanner podcasts that are truthful and well more educated.
  • RLeone37
    Great Content!
I’m fairly new to the scanning hobby (5 years now) and always looking for more info and what the latest technologies are. Phil covers topics from the basics up to more complex systems. Will definitely be investing in another scanner soon. Looking forward to future episodes!

    SDS100
Phil I was wondering when you will be able to put up a full tutorial of the Uniden SDS 100 on YouTube so that I can more fully use my radio to the best of its ability. There are many menus within the handheld scanner that I don’t understand how to use, it would be nice to be able to understand the menu functions on the SDS 100. I live in western Wyoming and frequent three counties, Lincoln county,Teton county, Sublette county, and occasionally Park County. I have use the Sentinel software to load my favorites, but I’m not sure that my handheld is set to analog and digital so that I can pick up all the radio communication around me. Would you be able to give me some advice in the meantime? Thanks!

    Great resource for the layman
*update* Still a good show, but the earlier episodes are more informative. The newer episodes seem to gravitate to his online course. Love the show. Phil goes deep, but walks you through everything. He realizes it’s not just about taking you from A to B, but the importance to comprehend the journey itself. Cheers

    Scanner Radios Demystified
I'm 55 years old and have been a radio and scanner listener/fan pretty much all of my life. With the advent of the internet, the information needed to help us understand our scanners, and programming help, became easier. However, it involved a lot of reading, some people can't sit thru paragraphs or pages, of highly technical stuff. A one to one voice conversation sometimes is what is needed to help one understand or grasp a concept better. Enter Scanner School. Phil dives into the subject that deals with the most pressing concerns, to help people get up and running and enjoying their new scanner. His knowledge of the matter is presented in a way that makes it understable to both novice and experienced users in this hobby. Shoiuld you need more help, a one to one conversation, to help you with your specific problem, is available thru his consulting service. As an experienced user, I have not have the need for this, but, I'm pretty sure if you did, you will be served well. Don't have time to go back and forth in forums trying to solve your problem or answer your question? Listen to this podcast.

Phil's stories engulf you in memories...love it!
I love Phil and his stories are so fun to listen to. I love hearing about his dad and his grandparents. Seriously, you can smell his memories, he describes them so well. Lots of knowledge here, too. Wonderful podcast.

Scanning and monitoring in an easy to understand format
If you are interested in monitoring or scanning this podcast will give you everything from the basics to advanced. You'll learn about all the different modes, trunking systens, and how they work. While every session may not be of interest, the ones that are make it worth listening to. It's clear that Phil is a passionate subject matter expert.

Great for new and returning scanner enthusiasts
Scanner School is a great podcast for anyone interested in scanning as a hobby. If you are new, you’ll learn everything you need to know to get started. If you are returning to the hobby after some years away like I did, a lot has changed, from the equipment available to two channels sharing the same frequency at the same time in a trunked system.

Things have changed so much since I left I didn’t know where to begin. Phil does a wonderful job of explaining both the simple and most complex in really easy to understand language.

    Awesome information!
I've had a portable scanner radio for over 15 years now. I work at an office building on a local airport and use it to listen to traffic quite a bit. I just listened to podcast 26 and it was loaded with great information. Thanks for putting all this together.

A must for all beginning to intermediate scanner enthusiasts!
Found Phil and his website when looking for reviews on the new SDS 100 Bearcat scanner. He does a great job of easing folks into the basic technical background of radio transmissions and then into more specifics about the latest scanner technologies. Great for both newbies and those interested in the scanning hobbie and know they are really not sure what they are doing or don't believe they are using their scanners to the fullest capability. Looking forward to catching up to the current podcasts. Keep up the great work Phil!
