Sprinkles208Great ListenI really love this podcast. Hearing from, and about, a lot of the bands that I listened to and saw during my teenage years has been great. Keep up what you’re doing as long as you can.
-
Eli ReuschMy youthJust a great nostalgia trip through the scene I loved so much as a teenager. Reminds me of all the great people I became friends with during that time.

HddvjrrddCould be better with a more knowledgeable hostLanemyer was a decent band and fairly nice guys in the 90s. They are actually what brought me to this podcast in the first place. I’m shocked at how little the host seems to know about punk rock in the 90s. There are some really good interviews but it doesn’t seem like he was that into the scene. Then again, he didn’t seem that into the scene back during the lanemyer days either.

El taka DrummerGreat insidesLove the 90’s era of punk rock really enjoy the inside story of bands I really appreciate great podcast 🤘🏼

newcasey90s and 00s Punk, emo, and hardcore sceneThis show is an outstanding look at the late 90s and early 00s scene, a time when music was blowing up and new genres were emerging constantly. Mike does a great job looking at how it all connects with bands and the industry, but also takes the time to talk to lesser known bands that were important to the scene as a whole. Great show, listen regularly.

TwoWeekNoticePodcastJon CheeseGreat host & great podcast for those who were part of the scene back in the day! Keep up the great work dude! Respect

Upstate-SteveOSo awesomeAbsolutely love this podcast!!!

ECWBAs an old punk myself......I kinda expected more from Mike as far as the common knowledge of stuff is concerned. Not knowing who Malcom Mcclarren was?! Or that the first Lollapalooza was 91 with Jane’s addiction, Ice-T, Rollins, etc?! I mean, don’t get me wrong, his interview style is very relaxed, very personable, amd I dig the content. But c’mon man, you can’t really tout a history of a time and a scene, and not know who Mark Mothersbaugh is!

SSWWWAAANNGreat InsightInto a period of time I was too young to actively participate in.
-
mkrunsurf56Punk Rock NostalgiaMike does a fantastic job interviewing a variety of people in the punk scene. Even not knowing all of the bands, it’s quite entertaining. It oozes genuine enthusiasm for music. Well done!

Richie Todd IIiA trip down memory laneFor anyone from the northeast/a fan of the 90s-00s punk or pop punk scene. Really some great interviews with some different folks who kicked around the scene. After you listen to several episodes, you can start to piece the different pieces of the web together—all interconnected by and through the scene. The Punk world is a small place. A great listen.

YghtrdessereeNoice!!!Beautiful podcast! So many great conversations about how it used to be in the music scene. Love the style of the host and the variety of the guests. Keep up the good work!!
-
Jack McAdamsMemories Keep the Scene AliveDoyle has a conversational approach that reminds us how communal the scene was/is. His final question for every episode, “What scene ethics do you hold on to this day?”, shows how the scene shaped anyone who was involved. Listen, share, & keep the scene alive.

justintbaMy Teenage Years Summarized in a PodcastSometime in 93, I started going to shows here and there at Skater’s World and the Wayne Firehouse. Within a year, I was going to a show nearly every week. By the time I was 14, I was booking shows, helping at others, and attending 2-3 a week. Whether I was in a muddy pit at Montclair State for Ska Against Racism, watching Mars Volta set off fire alarms, seeing World Inferno’s lead singer get naked on stage, running my umpteenth show with the Element crew, or booking Right Turn Eddie and Face First for my cousin’s sweet sixteen, I couldn’t get enough. I kinda still can’t. I bump the first Lanemeyer EP almost every week, my OCG CD every now and again, and I’ll never now support a band featuring Gabe. Keep up the good work and have me on this pod!

ScottbayloYou absolutely MUST LISTEN!Really great podcast! I’m actually from central NJ, this was my scene, so it’s relevant to me. But even if you were a kid from Arkansas at the time, I’d be surprised if this didn’t strike a chord with Anyone who was into the underground bands. There was nothing better than going to punk shows, and seeing a bunch of bands for a few bucks... what a special time!
-
BrianHatesDucksGreat podcast!So much nostalgia!
-
SomeKid97Great stuffThis guy I know was almost complaining to me about how he’s been re-enacting WWII as a Russian twice as long as the war lasted. Lanemeyer was a band for five years. Here’s to the future of This Was The Scene. -SomeKid

-
Guacamole_JonGreat PodCastI heard about This Was The Scene because Josh from Sicko was a guest, then I went through and cherry picked episodes of bands that I like then I subscribed because I really like the way Mike interviews and I enjoy hearing stories about music and learning of new bands. This quickly became one of my favorite PodCasts

LehighGuy79A trip down memory laneThis is an amazing podcast. I left NJ (Wanaque/Wayne) when I was young and moved to the Lehigh Valley. While I didn't grow up in the Jersey scene, the bands Doyle interviews are some of my favorite bands to cross the river into PA. Overall, it's a great podcast to hear behind the scenes stories from the voices that shaped NJ punk rock.
-
UmmmHowsThatExpertly curated conversational interviewsDoyle does a phenomenal job interviewing icons of the punk rock scene, utilizing preset questions and off-the-cuff queries as the need arises. As a listener, it’s wondrous to hear musicians of my youth displaying such candor as they chat with Mike for an hour or so. I highly recommend this podcast for anyone who enjoys music, especially those who grew up during the time period and whose CD racks were (and still are?) filled with some of the featured artists.
-
SwissdoggAwesome!I love this podcast! So many great bands came from The Jersey scene back in the day. It’s a must listen!

JakeobsReview of Ep. 032: Gameface w/ Jeff CaudillA very recent interview with Jeff Caudill, somebody who I’ve had the pleasure of knowing since 1991. As far as his extremely prolific musical output goes, I’m most partial to 1990-1995 era Gameface (as I previously alluded to, the ‘90s were BY FAR my favorite time in my almost 50 year life) but there’s lots of great songs to be heard all throughout Jeff’s 30+ year career. Great interview.

TommyTismeTaking Me BACK!Good stuff. Easy listen. Thanks!

Bird Man 23Great castI like it! Nostalgic
-
a n t h o nyGreat look in to 90’s NJPPAs someone whose always been interested in 90’s NJPP but wasn’t actually there this is a great look in to the scene. With very little info out there for a lot of bands of that era this is a great way to fill in blanks and discover more great bands. Great idea for a podcast!

ToadsPlaceRegularThe Only Podcast That MattersThis Was The Scene is the only podcast you need. I’ve listened to nearly every episode in a week because it’s that fuggin’ good. Brings back all the memories and feelings of 20 years ago when all that mattered was a good time with friends. We were really lucky to grow up with this community around us. Like has been said in the podcast, this was the greatest party ever that can never be recreated.
-
ladycjbunnyFor all of us that had a scene! This is a great podcast for anyone that spend time in a local punk scene in the 90s. Doyle has done a fantastic job interviewing everyone from fans, musicians and promoters to give you the whole picture. This wasn’t my scene, but it all sounds very familiar.
-
dpassen1A must listen every weekEvery Friday, I look forward to listening to a new episode of This Was The Scene. A healthy dose of nostalgia with a great interviewer. The guests are always candid and there's a real sense of friendship that's incredible to listen to.
-
wembley142No regretsA behind the scene look at time gone by. As someone who lived slept eat and bled this scene in that time. I listen to this and I am instantly taken back to the sounds smell and feel of it all. Even if you weren’t apart of this time line you will relate to it. Anyone who takes the time to read this will enjoy this show.
-
The real A$So much nostalgiaThis podcast is amazing for anyone that grew up in the Jersey punk scene this is the best way to reminisce about old times and even find out about a band you might have not caught the first time around. Doyle’s interviewing is spot on. Check this out!
-
KaplantcnjGreat for nostalgiaIf you went to shoes in NJ in the late 90s, this is an awesome look back.
