    Long overdue review!!
This is one of my go to podcast. I am majoring in psychology right now and I love listening to three different prospectives of what Brittany, Hannah, and Ben articulate with each different episode! Definitely a podcast worth listening to if you have not. Thank you guys for everything you do!

    NOPE
Hannah, Brittney, Ben, you guys truly are doing amazing things with this pod. I love hearing my favorite movies be dissected in such a clinical/educational way while still being easy to digest. Nope has to be one of my favorite movies and when I saw the review posted for it I immediately clicked! As a young woman in my twenties this pod brings me so much joy but also resources in the sense that things I’ve struggled with or related to through my favorite characters have been made clearer to me through the insight on these three amazing people. Please continue to make these pods they are so entertaining and help me get through my week!

*LOVE* the pod, with some suggestions
I’m a filmmaker (writer / director) and I’ve always had a strong interest in psychology, so this is right up my alley. So informative and just plain interesting! Found this podcast about a year ago, and have been working through the back catalog and always excited to see new episodes. It’s a fantastic concept and I love it, with just a couple caveats. The sound quality is inconsistent. It’s an audio-only medium, and when sound levels are really different between the speakers or the audio quality is just poor, it’s hard to listen to. Too many plosives too close to the mic. Even in film or TV, if the audio is bad, people will tune out. This seems like it might be improving, recently, and I hope it continues to improve. In the same theme of ease of listening, and I think this is improving some, too, one of the regular co-hosts (maybe Hannah?) is so very interrupty. She has a habit of cutting people off a whole lot. I’m ok with some interruptions - I think they all do it from time to time, and it’s fine! It’s a discussion! But sometimes the one co-host does it to the extreme and it just gets frustrating to listen to. There’s also a lot of upspeak? Where every phrase? Is a question? that also gets to me?And, Ben, I’m so tired of hearing about Batman. Perhaps it’s time to retire that bit. Ok, finally. Sometimes more research is needed into the cultural environment around a film’s release. I’ll use The Breakfast Club ep as an example of one that really just needed more research. The main characters were each representative of a different social group or clique, which was a prominent idea in 80’s movies as well as in the 80’s themselves: yuppies (Claire), punks (Bender), jocks (Andrew), nerds (Brian), and outcasts (Allison). I was laughing at some of the guesswork that was going on re Bender’s wardrobe and Claire’s social status, including her feelings of shame around her parents’ divorce. Sushi was a new yuppie trend at the time, and Claire eating sushi for lunch was wild. You guys sort of mostly got there in the end, but it was a little painful to listen to. These broad stereotypes were instantly recognizable to anyone who saw the film when it came out. The film then breaks down the walls between the teens who inhabit these isolated cliques, finding common connections between them. Suggestion: ask a Gen X person for some background on 80’s and 90’s movies, please, or just read more about the social context of the time. However! Having said all that - and I apologize for being so picayune - I still absolutely adore this podcast! It fulfills a niche that I didn’t know I was craving. The regular co-hosts and guests are fantastic in their insights and I love their personalities. And they’re based in Chicago, where I’m from! I’d love to see them branch out into some smaller films, or even foreign films, like a contemporary French film, for a challenge. I do love that they’ve dipped their toes into the occasional tv show, and there could be more of that, too. Thanks for the ‘cast, and keep going!

    10/10 INCREDIBLE
One of my all time FAVES! Entertaining, educational, and just all around amazing. Fully living a parasocial relationship with Hannah, Ben, and Brittney. Love considering some of these movies through the lens of these deep psychological considerations. All three understand their strengths and limitations. They have wonderful guests from time to time, totally wish I had become a therapist!

    Psych AND movies? Yes please!
Hi! Just graduated with my bachelors in psych and I LOVE this podcast! I appreciate the expertise and the humor. The hosts are authentic, very down to earth, and knowledgeable in their craft. I love the variety of movies they cover and the dynamic between the hosts. Keep it up!

    👍🏼
I really look forward to the new episodes! Great intersection of entertainment and psychology.
  • reiblue2
    Overly bloated
While this is a great concept, the hosts especially the male one tend to want to show each other up in their knowledge rather than having a discussion. They overly think about the movies in literal sense rather than think about what the film is trying to say or conceptualize and fail miserably in marrying the art and psychology. The episodes lack cohesion and go into long tangents. Better film and psychology podcasts out there

    Sound mixing needed
I’m a fan of therapists taking on movies (ie cinema therapy on YT) and this was great for that but I find it a little hard to listen to with all the hard breathing into the mic, mouth smacking and the “mmhms”/ or the audible agreements that I find are not necessary. I’d also love a little bit more of a break down of the concepts that people are not therapists might not be familiar with. Looking forward to checking out the rest of the catalog. 💪🏽

    More movie Genres!
This is an amazing podcast I just stumbled upon. I’ve gone through a few episodes and love a lot of the movie choses, but would like to see more variety. The movie choices have created a reoccurring theme in the concepts psychological/clinical concepts. I would be fascinated to hear the host talk about more comedies, romances, or rom-coms to bring up topics on joy, purpose, dating and romance. As well as mysteries that usually offer a cast of characters to analyze. Overall I’m enjoying this podcast!

    Love this podcast!
I went to college for Psych and Sociology and I am a HUGE movie/ tv show girl, so this podcast for me is a no brainer! I love hearing all the different takes from each host, based on what they specialize in, and I enjoy that it’s easy to follow. The casual nature of the conversation makes for easy listening, and I think it’s great when Ben goes on little nerd-tangents, using his outside fandom knowledge when talking about certain cinema. Overall, I really enjoy listening! My only issue is the placement of the advertisements. Someone will be mid-sentence and then the worst advertisement will take over. Sometimes, the same advertiser will play multiple advertisements in. a. row. But huge fan, and I will not let these advertisements win!

    LOVE
I LOVE this podcast! I keep sharing it with my friends and family! We’re wondering if you guys would ever do TV series? My sister and I want you guys to talk about Game of Thrones!

    Please edit out mouth noises!!
I really enjoy the content itself but PLEASE for the sanity of listeners with misophonia, edit out those god forsaken mouth noises!!! I was so excited to listen to the princess bride episode but I couldn't get through the first 10 min without losing my mind :(

    Love it!
I found this podcast in September of this year. I love the concept as someone who loves TV and psychologically. It adds a fun new layer to movies and media that I hadn’t thought that deeply about. In addition, this podcast handles heavier topics with grace which is wonderful. Would recommend!

I’ve always wanted a podcast like this to exist!
…and I just found it! I really appreciate their take on rom coms (I just listened to Sleepless in Seattle) as they make me feel validated in my criticisms of the expectations they set for women. The rescue mentality, the idea that stalking is ok , etc that are seen as “romantic “. Ugh. I know the movies are just supposed to be funny, but I do think they do a lot of harm… esp to women. I don’t like being told I’m not romantic. I just have a different idea of what romance is (And it Durant involve stalking or expecting someone to rescue you from yourself). A good rom com is so good, and a bad one just makes you feel gross. But I digress. I’ve only listened to a few, but so far I’ve enjoyed them. Not crazy about the sponsors -but you do what you gotta do to make it work, and not hard to skip them. Look forward to hearing more! I’d love you to do Sense and Sensibility. Obviously a book, but the characters provide sooo much to talk about:)

The only podcast I listen to
I love this podcast. I don’t really like podcasts as an overall medium but this one I can’t deny.

    Great Fun
I’ve been listening to this podcast for a few years now. The discussions are interesting and lighthearted, while taking things seriously when discussing heavier topics. I’ve learned a lot and it’s opened my eyes to some new perspectives.

    Great substance podcast!
I love that all the podcasters are professional psychologists on different specialties and different backgrounds give a professional, analytical, and critical opinion about characters in the movie in every episode 🙌🏼 great job !

    Check out this podcast!
I love this podcast! I’m not a big movie person but I love to learn about mental health and it’s nice to hear different perspectives from therapists who work with different types of clients. The hosts have unique perspectives which gives a pretty well rounded view of different mental health conditions. They’re insightful and awesome! 100% would recommend to anyone who is interested in mental health…. Which we all should be because if you’re reading this… you have a brain and need to take care of it 🙃

    mansplaining
love this show. the mansplainer, however, is exhausting. please replace him with someone with someone who doesn’t get off on hot-taking other peoples lived experiences at them.
  • ashleehitchcock
    Incredible and thoughtful insights!
I can’t believe there’s anything less than five star reviews for this podcast. This is exactly the kind of stuff I love to ponder about, and it’s fascinating the way they have unlocked characters I’ve never understood before (Mr Darcy!) As a writer, I love the deep dives into psyche and character motivation. These discussions help me understand different facets of myself and my own trauma. This is really fantastic, important work and I’m a huge fan. Thank you!
  • KateMo522
    Good idea, terrible execution
The episode I just listened to was an hour and 45 minutes long, meandering, no apparent structure. Biggest issue: EDIT. They leave in the “um”s, the long pauses, the people yawning, the awkward “two people talking over each other” moments- this is podcasting 101. EDIT, PLEASE!!!
  • DivineSunshine33
    Eww
They lost me at “Matilda’s white privilege” and “Last Jedi was a better film than Empire Strikes Back and Revenge of the Sith.” 🤢🤮
  • Es Cox
    So far so good!!
I’ve had to truly listen and pay attention during the episodes, hard for me but working on it. I’ve never thought of movies, like Frozen, in a dissecting way. Pretty cool. Takes me a little to figure out the lingo but love listening to how each movie is seen by different people and how each dissect it.

    Deep Dive for Dorks
I cannot express how hard I devoured these episodes once I found this podcast. I’m always looking for deeper and more critical analysis on the media that I take in and this is the level of nerd that I’m into. If you’ve ever wanted to get into the minds of your favorite characters and have more thoughtful understandings of your favorite movies, shows, characters, grab some popcorn and sub to this podcast yesterday! All the hosts are so wonderful and smart. I could listen to Hannah’s voice all day….rawr.
  • bellefriend
    Fascinating but poorly edited
Really love the content but the ads coming in at completely random moments is why I can't recommend it to friends. Loud commercials will literally break through in the middle of a speaker's word with no warning. Yikes
  • J123456!
    Great and novel show
I love this podcast! As a less experienced licensed clinician myself who really enjoys analyzing film, I love their takes on psychopathy and treatment ideas, for purely entertainment purposes. To the reviewer who said “ they don’t sound like therapists”… they aren’t putting on their clinical affect for this show, and their treatment ideas are actually great :)
  • BIGlittle box in the making
    Yeah
Excellent podcast! Get Out is the second one I heard and it was just so whoa! And the nuggets of micro-aggressions between the hosts was a whole other level.
  • luxpermanet
    Real therapist???
They sure don’t sound like real therapists. One of them talks like a millennial.

    Refreshing Podcast Unlike Any Other
This podcast is great especially if you enjoy picking apart storyline characters. These creators do a great job moving the conversation along and respecting each other’s input. It’s honestly so refreshing. I’ve not watched a lot of the movies they have covered but I end up enjoying those episodes the most. As a fiction writer, I really enjoy going through this experience with picking apart the psyches of the characters they choose.

    Thought Provoking!
Just discovered this podcast and it is my new favorite! This is a genius idea, and I love hearing their inputs on characters and their mindset. The ONLY thing… PLEASE fix the audio. We can barely hear the girls, and the commercials are SO loud and jolting.
  • JingerJevel
    AMAZING!
    This is my favorite podcast!

    Love This!
This podcast combines two of my favorite things, movies and psychology! This is definitely a binge worthy podcast! Give it a listen!
  • sliznaugh
    Must listen!
My two favorite things... therapy and Blockbuster movies! The three hosts have different takes on great movies and give the listen a chance to see their favorite characters in a different light! The real life connection you feel with these hosts and characters they are talking about give you a sort of comfort and new ways of thinking. Even though the topics maybe serious there are still opportunities to laugh! Love this podcast.

    Love!
I usually listen to podcasts before bed, but found myself staying up to finish each episode! Now I get so excited whenever there’s a new episode and make sure to find a time (during the day) to give it a listen. As a college student who loves movies and psychology, this podcast is such a fun way for me to continue learning outside of the classroom. I even picked up a psychology minor at school after becoming a regular listener over a year ago! Thanks so much to the Popcorn Psychology team for putting this podcast together.
  • bsloths
    So informative!
I just discovered this podcast, and it’s a fascinating idea. I’m really enjoying getting a deep dive into the psyche of some of my favorite characters. It’s educational and can get very serious, so the hosts balance that really well with their enthusiasm and sense of humor.
  • rachel9510
    Love this show
A great show with great therapists! Love the inclusion of mental health into things pop culture. I’m glad these three can take some good and bad representations of mental illness and critique it appropriately. Keep it up :)

    Trump Supporters Unforgiveable
The premise of this show is amazing and when the male host lets the female cohosts talk it was really great until on the Fatal Attraction podcast in the middle of my drive home I heard a Trump ad. How you can be mental health professionals and support someone so clearly bad for the nations mental health is deplorable. But, to endorse him on an episode about a narcissist man whose self obsession and consumption of women lead to a woman’s death is tacky! Shame on you all!!!!!

The only podcast I listen to
I’ve never been a fan of podcasts but one day out of the blue I decided to see what type of psychology related podcasts were out there. I stumbled across this podcast and I absolutely fell in love!!! I have a psychology degree and working toward getting my masters soon, so this podcast had my immediate interest. The conversations are so intelligent as well as entertaining. They’ve brought about a new way to look at characters from movies and I’m absolutely living for it!
  • nsidd96
One of my favorite podcasts ever !
This is seriously one of my favorite podcasts ever ! I look forward to long drives/cleaning days so I can listen to it. It’s entertaining but I always feel like I’ve learned something new after listening to an episode. It’s also helped me in my personal quite a bit ! Ive recommended it to so many friends -definitely check it out !

    Captivating!
I love, love, LOVE this podcast! As a psych major this definitely gets my critical thinking skills activated on my drive to work in the mornings! Combing my love of movies and all things psychology related, I thoroughly enjoy hearing the differing perspectives coming from each co-host with backgrounds in trauma, child psychology, and marriage and family therapy!

    All the Episodes
I am literally OBSESSED with this podcast. As a clinical psych graduate, I am genuinely intrigued by psychoanalysis and treatment of various psychological disorders and/or maladaptive behavioral patterns. Ben, Hannah and Brittney hit it on the nail EVERY.SINGLE.TIME. They’re witty, extremely well versed on all things psychology and clearly passionate about their work. SN: everyone should hear Ben debunk myths about hypnosis (Get Out episode) because it is definitely misconstrued in media. And after hearing his explanation, I definitely wanna try it! I could go on but all in all, LOVEEE this podcast. Follow them on all the social media, like and subscribe to their podcast and enjoy!

I always learn something new 😃
Whether it’s about Trauma, Grief, Anti-Social Personality Disorder, Dissociative Identity Disorder, or Obsessive Compulsive Disorder, I learn about a new topic in psychology in every episode, in a fun and interesting way. Not to mention that this is some of the best hosts of a show I’ve ever heard, Brittney Hannah and Ben are so fun, and I’m glad that they have fun doing their show. Love these guys 😊

    Legitimately My Favorite
As a clinical supervisor, I recommend this podcast to my supervisees. It helps them diagnosis cases they aren’t too familiar with. It’s engaging to keep them listening, so we can discuss later.

    YES & YES
Two of my favorite things: pop culture & psychology. It is so fun to hear these folks break down my favorite movies, some movies that shaped me, and hear the psychological breakdown of characters. Sometimes I learn things about myself in the characters that I identified with. This is so therapeutic in an awesome and unique way. Thank you!!

    Great podcast
They are very easy to listen to and very informative. They cover a wide variety of movies which is great too! 3 of the best co-hosts make you feel like you’re a part of the show.

    Love this!!
This podcast is great. The organization and clarity is impressive along with not having annoying voices and great audio quality!! 😂 the info is really good and they incorporate it in a way that is both entertaining and educational. Also i appreciate that they often reference socioeconomic and racial disparities
