This is the true crime podcast I have always been looking for and did not realize it until I heard you!!! I am a clinical social worker and became interested in true crime as a way to understand both how to keep myself and my family safe, but also to understand why these crimes occur. That last part is lacking in most podcasts. You are able to unlock much of that in a way that is unique and captivating. It will take me a while to get completely caught up, but I will!!! THANK YOU!!

This podcast took me a couple of weeks to really appreciate, but I’m all-in on it now. Unlike many true crime podcasts, this isn’t scripted, which is actually quite refreshing. I like Lauren a lot, she has a lot of good insight and she’s very personable. I enjoy that she is more concerned with reporting the facts than making a perfect podcast. I also love when she has Dr. John in to parse out different criminals and their acts. Together they both do a great job of approaching these crimes professionally and not turning them into the typical thrill rides that many podcasts try to create. Thank you, Lauren and Dr. John!

Intelligent discourse well done

I have been with these guys since the beginning of Lori Vallow D, way back before the trial “we found the kids together” we went through it all… some people on the reviews, they talk about it’s slow to get to the point, but it’s because we are family and anyone can be too! Just come on in and give it some time to get to know everybody. You will truly understand each case in a different way. They cover the complexity of each case. Not just the details- they Talk about the why, the how, they cover the psychology of it all. Lauren is extremely intelligent and also kind and has attention to the details you will need as the trial carries on. Her husband and Dr. John like I said before helps us understand the why and what each suspect was thinking during their murder and their behaviors before and after. It’s good! Thank you for all that you do Lauren And Dr. John.

Although I like most of the topics covered, I can’t help but be annoyed by Lauren’s constant “you know?”, “ummm”; it’s hard to believe she was a journalist. Also, did you know Dr. Matthias is her husband? (sarcasm) She mentions it at least 3 times per episode. It is also hard to believe they have a producer, you’d think the show would be MUCH better if that were the case. I cannot comprehend how or why this show is “popular”. Dr. Matthias’ analysis and explanations are simply meh, anyone with common sense is able to conclude the same as he. There’s potential here, do better ;p

This pod is not needed. Too long when other podcasts like Dateline cover the same stories better and less dragged out

I listen to a lot of true crime podcasts. This one is by far the best. Lauren brings us into the courtroom and vividly gives us a true picture of what is happening. Highly recommend!

This is the best “true crime” podcast out there thus far. The title “true crime” doesn’t even aptly describe or give proper credence to how incredible this pod is. The amount of research, evidence, analysis and preparation that must go into each episode, are concepts I can’t even imagine!!! Wow!!! It must be hours!!! The title of “true crime” is what I use for the absolute garbage, lazy, inauthentic, low class, meritless, phony, kindergarten level of literacy that the laughingstock company Audio Chuck - Crime Junkie - The Deck - the 2 dopes that sit barefoot on their couch with their fake coffee mugs just parroting one another over and over, or actually any other garbage pod that is being produced by 99% of podcast creators is the same exact cookie cutter bubble gum dumpster fire except this one. I actually learn after listening to each episode as opposed to wiping drool from my open mouth due to my zoning out from utter boredom from listening to the other nonsense. I am also a licensed NYS mental health clinician and appreciate the profound professionalism and integrity that is demonstrated by the hosts. Jen from NY is always giving you both a standing O!!! Phenomenal job!!!!

Takes too long to get started on the crime. Over 15 minutes in and they haven’t started talking about the crime. Also has a hard time getting thoughts out. Just get to the point!

This podcast is one of the only ones I can say is truly, truly, ethical. Every case they touch, they bring a level of value to that no one else can. John with his forensic psychology expertise, and Lauren with her journalism skills that allow her to uncover things most people can’t/won’t. HTC is the best of the best and well worth the listen!

I look forward to all the episodes. The interaction between Dr. John and Lauren is great and they compliment each other. I love the knowledge they both have and their passion for True Crime.

As a prior journalist, zero research on the Delphi case! All the complaining you do on the Visions of Glory book, and the Delphi coverage is incredibly misleading, BIASED! To sit in that courtroom and watch that trial, which was completely hidden from the public! A trial such as that deserves full and proper research! But then again another podcast MS has followed this same story line, and gets the same people on as well! Speaks VOLUMES of where you have taken this podcast. Your tag line of finding the hidden truths to understand the crime, well that went straight out the window!

Professional journalism and forensic psychology at its best. These two are great on all things legal, true crime, etc. They are quite charming and fun and smart and dark in the best way. Whether you’re listening to them for a specific case or subject, you will always learn something. John is genius, but plain talking and injects plenty of heart in all his analyses. Don’t miss them!

Interesting podcast in the true crime arena. The focus here is on psychological analysis from a forensic psychologist and a journalists that always asks probing questions to dive deeply behind the hidden motives that drive criminal behavior. When they go low, we go high ;-)

I’ve learned so much from following their journey as they peel back layers to reveal the hidden truths behind these stories. Lauren goes into the court room and shares daily updates on what’s going on in the trial. This is great content-also available on their YouTube channel of the same name.I absolutely love Hidden True Crime!

The hosts give clear and direct information about crimes and then dive into why the human beings involved acted as they did based on psychology. The moments of “why would someone do that?” are given lots of air time and it gives such an open space for the human mind, the legal system, and everything in between. I have enjoyed every episode, every perspective.

Okay so I am only a few episodes in and wow Dr Johns analysis on Chad Daybell and psychology in general is so interesting. I already liked Lauren because of listening to her on Mormon Stories but I love her interjections here. I know it’s dark topics that are being discussed but I appreciate the humor too because I happen to be a believer of laughter being the best medicine. I downloaded this podcast a while ago and I am kicking myself for waiting so long to enjoy it. You guys make a really great team!

I’ve listened to a lot of True Crime podcasts and there are so many good ones, but I think the connection with Lauren and Dr. John has me hooked. They are so relatable and have the perfect blend, a journalist and a forensic psychologist. They leave no stone unturned and I am so glad I have found this show.

How ironic to hear a Trump ad on a podcast about red flags for domestic abuse and partner murder. Do better. He might be potus but he has been adjudicated guilty for multiple crimes including SA, and his ex wrote in her memoir about him attacking and abusing her.

Hi, I have PTSD acute insomnia from a violent attack at the doctors October 1, 2012 and I just tuned in briefly to the Gabi Patito where the gentleman says she’s placating… 100% agree any states she’s gone through this drill before… I agree and that she’s dealt with a lot of criticism. Yes, I agree When that video of the officers first broke I went on Twitter and I talked about it. Looking back now it’s devastating that Gabi is dead and there were so many factors but those police officers remember there was one that seemed to identify with Brian, which I find very, very concerning. I believe if they had arrested her, even though she was the victim she’d be alive, but the truth would never have come out that he was not only the abuser but capable of murder and he murdered her and the cops framing Gabi as perp when she was clearly the victim, and in my opinion, constantly told that she was the bad one everything was her fault, which is what abusers, including in my case did gaslighting lying threats, intimidation, and the NYPD broke how many laws in my case?

As a “true crime fanatic” I appreciate that Lauren & Dr. John take the time and care to really “dig deep” into these cases. They don’t just go over the facts, they really analyze things. Great work and thank you!

Not to take anything away from you Lauren because you are remarkable and amazing and intelligent! I could just listen to Dr John break down everything and anything from the minds of a serial killer to what came first, the chicken or the egg. So insightful and so intelligent. Ugh. I personally attended a local trial and met Lauren. I couldn’t go everyday, so on days where I wasn’t there, her channel was the first I’d tune in to. She reported logically and her take was exactly the same as mine on the days I was in court. And then she keeps an open mind and runs things by her brilliant husband for a deep psychological insight

My husband and I both have psych degrees and love the genuine theory and clinical expertise here. But, not only that, we love both of yall’s humor!

Lauren is a great reporter and doesn’t slam or over-praise anybody. No drama. Just the facts, great notes. This is the least biased Delphi coverage I have found. Thanks for your hard work! I definitely appreciate Dr. John’s insights as well. My only criticism is the titles of the episodes seem like tabloid/gossip stuff, but that’s not what the episodes are actually liked.

In a world where critical thinking and other elements of intellectual curiosity are being met with destain, Psychologist Dr. John Matthias and his wife journalist Lauren Matthias are a beacon of light. Their combined skill set of criminal/forensic psychology and ethical investigative journalism is unique and essential to further our understanding of criminal behavior. Without that understanding, effective prevention is impossible. While they are part of the true crime community, their podcast is on a whole other level. Their mutual love and respect is evident in a wonderful communication style that enhances the listener’s experience.

Please cover the new lisk case information. Rex Heuermann has been charged with a 7th murder. He may have killed for 30 plus years! Can we revisit Rex and his potential scope of crimes. Insurance fraud, tax fraud, murder, kidnapping, torture, defiling a corpse, etc….

One of the most insightful, thoughtful, interesting and entertaining pod casts I have ever seen. If you are a true crime fan, you need to add this show to your roster! Bravo!

You can tell that the host(s) really do their research, and that makes this podcast thorough and informative. I got into this podcast because I wanted to know more about the Delphi case, and I’m glad I did. One minor complaint—and I’m not sure if it’s just because the host was live and reading her notes, but during the live stream episodes she smacks her lips/makes a sound with her mouth after almost every sentence that makes me crazy. I have to listen to the episodes on a low volume because I’m very interested in the information, but it triggers my misophonia. Just want to put that out there in case anyone else suffers from this because if I weren’t so into the case, I would stop listening. The regular episodes don’t seem to have this problem, so it’s likely a nervous tick or something, but it’s maddening.

Dr. John you’re missing the defenses whole point here. She was declared competent and stood trial in Idaho. Now this court in Arizona going to great lengths to ensure her competency. The conundrum just the fact the court here is trying to preserve this record. If she’s incompetent she cannot go to trial. So once her Idaho appeals reach federal review, this case will be overturned based on Arizona rulings that are questioning her competency. If she’s incompetent to serve as her own advocate, no trial should have ever taken place. That will be considered when the appeals process reaches Federal level. It’s brilliant strategy that most are missing.

Many of the reviews that accuse this podcast of being bias are coming from their own bias opinions, which is ironic. What I’ve heard in all the coverage of the delphi case is observe and report. I started listening to this podcast with the coverage of Lori Vallow and Chad Daybell- great series!! Thank you for all your hard work, commitment to the truth, being the voice for victims, and sharing your opinions while also giving both sides. My fav episodes are when Dr. John gives his psychological assessments!

I have enjoyed this podcast for a very long time and after the Delphi trial no more. Lauren’s opinions are highly influenced by Dr. John and that was made clear. I will not be supporting this, YouTube, and cancelled Patreon as special episodes were promised and they went on YouTube the next day. Sad to see deception.
