    Design in Health Care Rocks!
“Design Lab” is a weekly listen for me. The wide variety of guests and topics always leaves me with new ideas and a number of “I never thought of that before” moments during the podcast. The length of the podcast is a great for a walk around the neighborhood or a bike ride on the trails. Keep up the great work!

    Healthcare and Design Merge
I stumbled on this podcast and I LOVE it. Great host and great guests. What I love about this podcast is they look at healthcare from many different lenses. As someone who works in healthcare, it is refreshing to listen to.

    Design Lab is my religion
I met Dr. Ku at Stanford’s Med X Conference several years ago. At the time, I was a lecturer at Stanford’s d. School teaching healthcare design classes to interdisciplinary students. At the conference I learned about his “Health Design Lab,” at Thomas Jefferson University Medical School where he works with students to develop new design concepts for the healthcare sector. I LOVE these podcasts. I appreciate how they all connect issues regarding our environment, systemic racism, cultural norms and a complex healthcare system while exposing the elephants in the room such as current US birth outcomes in black and brown communities, the difference between universal vs. inclusive design, and the history of intentionally designed inequity in our country (ie. redlining communities). As I tell my students, design can be a form of activism. I loved today’s episode with Pinar Guvenc from SOUR. She coined a term that resonated for me, “Diagnostic Ideation”. I thought that was a very accurate description of what we do when we want to get to the “why” behind problems. The idea is to expose an insight through asking “why?” “The 5 whys” is an iterative interrogative technique used to explore the cause-and-effect relationships underlying a particular problem. The primary goal of the technique is to determine the root cause of a defect or problem by repeating the question "Why?". Each answer forms the basis of the next question. The "five" in the name derives from an anecdotal observation on the number of iterations needed to resolve the problem. This technique can be traced to Sakichi Toyoda, a Japanese inventor and industrialist. Not to be trivialized: Dr. Ku’s extremely soothing voice. Something we all can benefit from.

As an architect designing healthcare spaces, I’m always curious to hear about the various perspectives in healthcare delivery. Each weeks’ guest gives me more insight to the complex landscape of healthcare, nationally and globally. This podcast is a must listen for anyone who wants to make an impact on health through design. Kudos to Bon and his production team on a great podcast!

    Amazing!
As an experienced UX designer in healthcare, I am always sampling the latest resources for something that relates. This podcast does more than relate, it inspires! Not just information… it feels like a flashlight illuminating one more clear step forward in this unknown out of control system. Kudos to the team and thank you to you and your guests.

    Eclectic and refreshingly curious
Dr. Bon Ku brings a phenomenal range of design perspectives to the listener. While it’s naturally healthcare oriented, I think anyone who seeks design inspiration will enjoy it. Really high quality, interesting conversations.

    Relevant for any creative thinker!
I have zero background in healthcare, but I love this show. It’s so practical and good at sparking different ways of thinking about things. I often replay the episode as soon as I finish listening to it, just to help concepts percolate more. Love the bias towards hands-on real-life experience to understand why people do things - like getting pharma execs to eat (gross-flavored) jelly beans 3x a day to mimic a patient experience and realize that “medication adherence” requires much more than just handing people instructions..

    My new favorite podcast!
I wasn’t sure what to expect bc I wasn’t sure how design and health related. But it’s really chill and like having a conversation with a good, wise friend. Bon is really good-natured and seems down to earth while obviously being knowledgeable. I love that each episode has a takeaway that can be practically applied to your life, and I find myself thinking about for hours afterwards. Highly recommend!

    Great podcast!
Love the diverse perspectives on this podcast, and the introduction to design concepts and how they are relevant to all of us. Please add transcripts if you can. And it might be nice to have an “abstract” for each to sum up what it about and key take homes.

Wonderfully diverse perspectives on an important topic.
It’s great to have a weekly dose of inspiration from Bon and the amazing guests he brings onto the show. I love the careful attention to highlighting a key take home each week around the issue of leveraging design (in all its forms) to make our daily lives a bit happier and healthier. Definitely needed these days!

    I came from insta!
Hiya! I saw Dr. Natter posted this on his story and decided to check it out. I’m personally not a huge fan of the intro/interlude music but that’s just me. I liked the questions asked and I thought it was well done. It felt like just listening to you two talk. I think I’ll subscribe and listen to more it was pretty soothing while I made breakfast. Thanks so much and take care xx
