USA MknitterExcellent reporting job; can’t wait for what’s next for Fat LeonardOur family lived several years in the late 1980s in Manila, Philippines on the economy—we were not military. Tom did NOT say that a high core value for Asians is to not be shamed, especially publicly, which Fat Leonard is trying to cover up by saying he has a lot of good things going for him [hiding his fear/embarrassment about possible imprisonment]. Also, Asians will tell you [an American] what he/she thinks you WANT to hear, rather than the actual truth. They are also impressed with education and rank. It’s sad to see another large American organization (like the US Navy) be so quick to blame others for wrong doing [just listened to another podcast where the DEA would not take action against wrong doing within its ranks, as well as not providing public information—like the US Navy in this situation]. Also, we saw in the Philippines that taking bribes was not wrong, unless you got caught. I had to chuckle when I heard Fat Leonard was paying for his own house security—he was in cahoots with it! Also, what doctor said he was in poor health? Fat Leonard can be in cahoots with that doctor, too! Please keep the podcast updated on Fat Leonard as a result of his capture and further court hearings, his children, and any further developments. Many kudos to Tom Wright and superb his reporting!

GeumpyhistoryWow, Surprisingly ExcellentUnskewed. Covers government in a politically agnostic way. The way the military must operate in the real world, the ways it doesn’t have to but does anyway, and how it absolutely shouldn’t. Fat Leonard isn’t a good guy. But I’m not sure he’s the most evil villain of the story either. We are all being taken advantage of. If the military is naive to the bribes, etc., then they would just deal with port authorities themselves. Interesting human interest story, taxpayer accountability story, financial true crime story, military structure story. Excellent all around.
