    Great podcast!
Fun and informative. Love hearing these guys, listening to them is an experience comparable to watching an episode of Cheers.

    Help… I can’t stop!
This is the podcast I can’t put down! I’m learning so much. One of my favorite writing techniques that you’ve discussed throughout many episodes has been “good news, bad news.” Wow, such a powerful tool, you discus, that films use. If Jamie’s “interestingly enough” has not made it to the bingo card, it’s a frequent space!

A bit woke…ish at times but great amazing
The into the spider verse episode was a bit too much for me (I edited my review to be nicer as I like the podcast aside from that). Race shouldn’t matter, gender shouldn’t matter, make great characters and people will love them. There, you’re welcome. I solved it. Women, write awesome characters, non…white men, write awesome characters, and make studios to compete. Make stuff, don’t wait for white people to let you do it. That’s almost always the reason. “The rich or the whites, keep us from x”. Get people together, make awesome stuff. Make it diverse or people are gonna say all black isn’t diverse, just like all white isn’t. Think about it.

    Good news…
You just found a great show! Bad news, it’s going to take a long time to listen to the entire catalog. Good news, you’re going to be a better writer. Bad news, you’re going to give up the ukulele because you’ll spend your time writing.

I’m glad I found this podcast
I 2nd what all the Reviewers say, except the one who said that Jimmy talks too much. He doesn’t. I’m a beginner. I need to hear what Jimmy says! I say let the man bring up his lists. I need to hear him explain everything. It’s important stuff! #LetJimmyTalk To B, J&J - Fun Eps #117 Star Wars + #36 Speed! I couldn’t stop laughing along w/you. Your shows always put me in a good mood. Thx

    Amazing Show
If you are looking to improve your skills in the craft of screenwriting I highly recommend this show. Bob, Jimmy and Jamie are also very entertaining to listen to as they are movie fans at heart which is on full display as they discuss some of the best genre movies of all time. I look forward to each episode and have yet to listen to one I didn’t either learn something or laugh!

    So glad I found this
I’m jealous of you if you’re just finding this podcast. You’ve got 100+ episodes of super detailed script deconstructions to sink into. You’ll get so many tips on what types of things to avoid in your script, what makes scripts great and how a reader will interpret your story. I love these guys, I feel like I know them. They play off each other really well and you feel like you’re in the same room with them. They’re super authentic and don’t hold anything back. These are not the phony Hollywood types that I’ve heard of—they’re not selling a lie. They do this ad free, and only plug their own businesses/classes at the beginning or end. If you’re a corporate schlub like me whose hanging onto the dream of writing a script, this is a must listen.

    A Masterclass in Screenwriting
There are a lot of writing podcasts out there, but Writers Blockbusters stands out as the best. Featuring three seasoned hosts offering expert advice, industry insights, and engaging discussions, every episode feels like a mini masterclass in screenwriting. As a professional writer, I consider it one of my most valuable resources.

    Wonderful Show
Even with Jimmy over-talking and cutting off the other hosts, this show delivers amazing craft-centered lessons.

A Must Listen for All Writers
I’ve been a long time listener and have both greatly enjoyed the show and learned quite a bit. The 3 excellent hosts all know what they are talking about and take the time to teach the listener lessons to take on writing from blockbuster films.

    “Great minds discuss ideas”
I love this show! A friend introduced it to me and I’ve been hooked ever since. I really appreciate the insight that Bob, Jamie, and Jimmy bring to the craft of writing, as well as the camaraderie and mutual respect they have for one another. It’s been said that “great minds discuss ideas.”Bob, Jamie, and Jimmy spend each episode discussing the incredible ideas behind storycraft and I always consider it time well spent when listening.

Can’t Miss Podcast for Storytelling Craft
If you want to tell good stories (and not just movies), listening to this show should be top of your list. Jimmy, Jamie, and Bob do an excellent job breaking down stories and sharing techniques while being fun and enjoyable to listen to in the process. HIGHLY RECOMMEND!

Essential podcast for aspiring screenwriters & narrative aficionados
Writers/Blockbusters is both a very fun show and an instructive podcast for aspiring screenwriters. Jimmy, Jamie, and Bob break down the script of whichever movie they’re discussing, offering tons of insight and wisdom from years of working on scripts. I started listening shortly after reading SAVE THE CAT and it has been the perfect follow-up to that book, as each episode involves the co-hosts applying various techniques and tools from STC and other screenwriting experts. Even if you don’t have the itch to write yourself, if you’re interested in narrative and story in movies, this is a must-listen podcast.

    Incredibly Useful and Entertaining
This was the podcast I never knew I needed. There is nothing more helpful to amateur screenwriters than breaking down the techniques that work. And what better way to do it with some of the most successful and entertaining films ever made. I’ve been on a binge ever since discovering this podcast. Keep up the good work fellas!

    So good!
I’ve listened to this show since it started. And it’s not hyperbole to say it’s the best screenwriting podcast currently. Great insight on storytelling, plotting, character and the mechanics of screenwriting from guys who know what they’re talking about. Accessible and inspiring. Keep up the great work fellas!
  • creature_creator

    Deep dive into movie scriptwriting
This has become one of my favorite podcasts. Bob, Jimmy, and Jamie dig into a movie’s script and talk about how it’s constructed in a fun way. They point out all the writing constructs and story elements, and explain how it all works, or doesn’t work, for that particular script. These guys have a fun, easy chemistry and I listen to all their episodes regardless of if I’ve seen the movie.
  • Daynadirects
    Actionable and interesting!
I’ve been a fan of this podcast for a while now and it just keeps getting better! Screenwriters and movie fans in general will find a ton of interesting and useful info here with a few laughs along the way.

Uniqie and fascinating perspective on looking at film
I've been listening to Writers/Blockbusters since they launced the show on the Thundergrunt feed and Jamie, Jimmy and Bob have been consistantly entertaining and blowing my mind with their in-depth and super insighful deconstructions of blockbuster movies. Taking the perspective of the final edit of a film as if it were the final draft of the script and using their deep knowledge of scriptwriting, Jamie and Jimmy really get at what does and doesn't workint he movies, or something why breaking all the "rules" works for a particualr film. Bob's navigating the conversation and adding in his editing expertise as well as his deep fandom of film is the perfect driver for these conversations as well, and you can really tell that the three really enjoy doing the show.

Learn why you love your favs
The way this crew breaks down the craft of putting together a script is fun and interesting, chock full of tidbits and techniques. I love learning why certain movies, characters, plots, arcs hit so much harder than others. Everytime I listen to an episode I always leave it loving a film even more than I did before. Makes me feel like i could write my own script now 🤣
  • Baneplex
    One of the best!
One of my favorite screenwriting podcasts!
  • Brandt Cooley
    Love it
I’ve also been listening since basically the beginning, having an episode, having disliked an episode, I love breakdowns and analysis and I love movies so it’s right up my alley. Plus it’s not a bunch of breakdowns of what’s wrong with the movie, a lot of movie podcast I’ve heard are primarily what’s wrong with a movie, and this is not that.
  • bingocardcounter
    Fun and helpful!
Writers/Blockbusters takes the final film and breaks it down into some basic storytelling components and techniques. I have enjoyed listening to Jimmy, Bob, and Jamie since the beginning, and many of their simple tips have helped me in my own writing.

Subscribe now and Save the Cat later.
I’ve been listening to Writers/Blockbusters for years now and it’s still in my top 3 podcasts of all time. Whether you're an average film fan or serious student of cinematic storytelling, the knowledge Jimmy, Jamie, and Bob bring to the table is priceless. Even if their opinions differ from yours, there's always a level of professionalism mixed with joyous energy brought to every conversation that really makes you feel like you’re listening to a conversation with three buds who just happen to know their screenwriting stuff. Writers/Blockbusters will not only keep you engaged but give you enhanced insight into why a film's story does or doesn't not work as (probably) intended by the fimmakers. I gotta be real, if this is your first time listening, I envy you. This is as good as it gets.

A Great New Jumping On Point
So glad to see Bob, Jamie, and Jimmy take their series solo as its own podcast! I’ve been enjoying their thoughts on screenwriting for years and now all these episodes are easier to find in one place. Excited to follow them into the future here!
  • DBotelho
    Don’t get writer’s block, listen to Writers/Blockbusters!
Ugh, sorry, I explained the joke. Forgive me. If you have any interest in writing movies, and even if you have zero interest in writing movies, but love them this is the show for you! The gang breaks down a movie treating the finished film as the script and analyzes it down to the bones. For all the fun I have listening to them “geek out” about their craft and the work of movies, the hosts’ chemistry is what makes the show work, and shine, with a lot of humor and fun. Give it a shot, I’m sure you’ll find at least a few movies you’re interested in hearing them tear apart. Then try and tear yourself away!

Really Fun and Informative Podcast For Writers and Fans
It’s a lot of fun to hear the breakdowns and especially different views on how structures are broken down in films that appeal to a wide audience. Dig into your favorite films first and you’ll soon be listening to every episode.
  • Luke's Lightsaber
A delightful, funny, and insightful film podcast.
I found Thunder Grunt through listening to their Midsommar episode. Jamie, Jimmy, Bob balances their podcast with humor and extensive knowledge of their craft. You will definitely learn more not only about the film itself, but the screenwriter avenues of why things came to be.

Love these two professionals…and the other guy!
As someone who has actually written a screenplay, these guys are the real deal. I love the wisdom, insights, and occasional good-natured ribbing all three of these gents (who all clearly have great respect and affection for cinema, storytelling, and one another) offer in each episode. This podcast isn’t just for movie lovers; it’s for anyone interested in the mechanics of great storytelling offered by people who are easy to listen to and feel like old friends.
  • Greencapt
The most informative script analysis show online.
The premise is simple-pick a movie and analyze what was seen on the screen as the final version of the script. The simplicity ends there though-this trio brings years of experience both in an out of the film industry to their analysis of what makes good (and bad) films work. I don't always agree with their opinions of the quality of some of the films they cover, but every episode brings up new and interesting points about the works that I may not have considered. Whether you are an aspiring screenwriter or just a film fan I like myself who enjoys hearing about technique, there's something to be learned on every show.

    Made me a better writer.
I’ve been following Bob, Jimmy, and Jamie for a few years now. Such an insightful podcast. Because they use the film as the final draft of the script it’s a great way to deconstruct why a film works and in turn, hopefully make my scripts better because I’ve learned why some films work and others don’t. Writing aside, they’re also a lot of fun to listen to. Great camaraderie and you can tell they’re having fun. Easily one of the best podcasts around.

    Why Movies Work or Don't
Listening to these guys break down a movie is both entertaining and enlightening, especially for those who want to know more about the craft of storytelling, screenwriting, and why some movies sometimes seem to work while others don't.

    Fun, Relevant, and Informative
I’ve been listening to Writers/Blockbusters for years and always recommend it to new screenwriters. But truth is whether you’re a novice looking to learn basic story structure or trying to break the back of your 100th screenplay, these guys can teach you something in fun and simple terms. Definitely give it a listen!

How To Think Like A Screenwriter
I’ve been a big fan of this podcast for a few years now, the round table style and different personalities make for a fascinating look at how the thought processes of screenwriting blockbusters can help with my own modest projects. The recent ‘Jurassic Park’ episode gave me quite a few insights into a film I’ve loved and seen many times over the last almost thirty years, but they also tackle recent films with equally sharp analysis. Well worth your time if you love movies!

You don't have to be a writer to love this podcast
Bob, Jimmy, and Jamie offer a deep-dive analysis of popular movies both old and new in their final form, along with industry info and a ton of writing tips. I've been listening to Writers/Blockbusters for a few years now. As a novelist who hasn't fully ventured into screenwriting (yet), I still find plenty of advice that's relevant to my own work. The discussions of story beats and character techniques doesn't take away from my enjoyment of the films themselves, and a healthy dose of humor keeps me laughing and engaged. If you like movies in general, you'll enjoy this behind-the-scenes peek of your favorite characters and stories. So check it out!

    Review
This podcast is great. The Hosts are all experts and it really shows in their insightful comments. Whether you're a casual listener who just wants to know more about movies, or a screenwriter or any kind of writer who wants to learn how movies come together and how pros tackle movies, you're guaranteed to get something from them. It's even better if you listen after watching the movie or reading the script they're talking about; it's like watching along with them and you get to see things you might have missed because they're able to point it out. This is totally worth it.

    Filmmakers Making Maryland Proud 🎬
After listing to an episode, my creative cup is always full. There’s nothing like listening to a group of friends who chased their dreams talking about the magic of cinema. Inspires me and reminds me I can do it too in whatever arena. This show is fun and educational and an overall vibe.

    Lovely Script Advice
I very much dig the breakdown these gents provide for blockbuster flicks from a writing perspective. Always entertaining, always smart, and always keeps me motivated to think about my own writing. Five stars. Would recommend!

    “What’s your favorite _______ movie?”
If you like movies, writing, the entertainment industry, or just like to laugh, this podcast may be for you. It’s like being a fly on the wall while a group of knowledgeable friends break down iconic movies to find why they work, and sometimes why something didn’t work. As an amateur writer, I find it eye-opening, knee-slapping, and occasionally educational (gasp!). I highly recommend to anyone who wants to peek behind the curtain at what makes the movies we love lovable, and to those who just want to pretend they have cool friends to geek out with on lonely nights. 🤓
