Deep Dive Film School

85

Every Friday we review films that are part of our non-stop festivals. These festivals will cover a treasure trove of topics about film history from famous directors to genres to modern classics and punishment reviews. We are here to dive deep into each film and educate ourselves and you along the way. And what better way to have these discussions than with old friends.Adam Sherlock and Adam Palcher had a podcast since 2007 named A Damn Movie Podcast with over 300 episodes, in 2019 we decided to rebrand into Deep Dive Film School. Our brotherly love is a huge part of the show and we want to share that with you while we drink, curse, laugh and dissect our love of movies. We do SPOIL in most every episode so please be aware! Please subscribe and you can email us at deepdivefilmschool@gmail.com or hit us up on Instagram, Facebook or Twitter. Enjoy!*We are not an actual accredited film school, it's just a clever name.

Best kept secret on the Internet!!!
A great podcast, interesting, entertaining, have watched countless movies I would have never watched until I heard about them here. I've been listening for over Eight years now, still look forward for every new episode. A Quality production. So much content.

    One Man Show
One of the hosts is so far up his own a** it’s anybody’s guess why he doesn’t just start his own podcast. He barely lets his cohost get a word in edgewise. Initially, I found this poor excuse for a podcast when searching for one discussing “Mysterious Skin”. Big mistake! Besides mispronouncing Gregg Araki’s name, the hosts completely missed the whole point of the film (even though one admitted to reading critic reviews prior to recording). 🤦🏾‍♂️ Mr. Talkative also thinks seeing two of Araki’s films makes him an expert on the director’s style. Nevermind that Araki has directed more than 10 films and a TV series. 🙄 The episode is also full of latent homophobia. Really, you are uncomfortable with the sounds of slurping or the sight of a man enjoying a blowy? I’m sure your opinion wouldn’t be different if it were a woman performing the act. 😒 Whatever! Clearly the movie went over your head. And if you are both too dimwitted and bigoted to grasp the big picture in “Mysterious Skin,” or even understand the relevance of “Midnight Cowboy” (the other film covered in the episode), then I don’t see much point in wasting my time listening to two more unqualified white men shoot the sh*t about a subject they know absolutely nothing about. 👋🏾

    Absolute favorite
I’m so sad to hear that they will no longer be doing this podcast. They suggested movies that I would have never watched like Mother, and The Usual Suspects. They are informative and funny. The two Adams will be missed

    One of the very best!!!
This is a wonderful podcast. Unlike so many -too many-others they don’t Wonder way off subject trying to be bad comedians. They keep it on point with truly intelligent insights and commentary. Thanks Guys! You are appreciated.

    Entertaining
Love the reviews of movies and you guys make me laugh!

    Amateurish production
Most recent episode (Caddyshack and 80s movies) begins with three minutes and fifty eight seconds of pure silence. I thought my app was bugging out, but it turns out instead no one really edited. This is surprising, seeing as they insert audio from movies in here.

    A must listen for cinephiles
I’ve been listening for a few years now and my only complaint is it’s not weekly! Funny, smart guys with great taste and interesting analysis. And did I say funny? I’ve discovered so many films bc of them. Keep it up, guys.

If you like movies, you should listen to these guys.
I listen to a lot of different movie podcasts, but this one really stands out. These two podcasters really bring some real content to the table, unlike other “yuck-it-up” shows in which people come unprepared to talk in any kind of serious way about the movies at hand. Instead, this podcast is worth listening to, with ideas and opinions you might not have thought of. Highly recommended.

I’m so happy this show exists.
There are few people in the game who are able to speak with as much zeal, heart and honesty about their passions as the two hosts of ADMP. This show is a force of good in the universe; an always engaging, entertaining and thought-provoking listen. The hosts tastes are diverse and prolific. One of the show’s greatest strengths is that the two Adams never cow-tow to a preconceived set of “film critic specifications,” rather choosing to rejoice and pontificate without abandon when conversing about the universal questions we go to the cinema to find in the first place. I could not think more highly of the hosts’ opinions on this show, which is likely the highest recommendaton one can give. 10/10, all the stars.

    Good podcast, crap music
The format of the podcast and the discussions are all good, and the hosts seem to be pretty well-informed film critics. Unfortunately I'm taking off a star because whoever picks the musical interludes has very specific interests and only chooses songs from that musical genre, which not everyone will like. Personally, I think the music is garbage and it's annoying to have to skip past. That alone has caused me to unsubscribe the podcast.

    No substance.
Another podcast by two white dudes, meandering about topics with no information. Came to this to hear some stuff about Bloodsport starring Jean Claude Van Damme. And they spend so much time making up all types of homosexual undertones and etc that have nothing to do with the film at all! You’re better off reading the wikipedia, watching it yourself, and making your own conclusions. Another podcast where two people who have ZERO credentials! Don’t at all understand film making or martial arts! They don’t even have their facts straight “i duno if this is his first move or uhhhh” “uhh yeah i think it might be his first uhhhh” OPEN WIKIPEDIA , IT’S 2015.

Great balane between critical and fun
This has the right balace of movie knowledge and just fun conversation. Sometimes I dont want to listen to tech critical reviews. I just want to hear about good movies and whats good about them great podcast.

    Hidden Gem
ADMP is THE reason I stay sane at work. Their insightful, yet amusing discussions on well known to nearly obscure film keeps me at attention everytime I tune in. From the catchy intro/outro to their rare impressions and even the six degrees at the beginning, the Adams know how to keep the conversation going. Even tangents are interesting since they always bring it back to the subject at hand. Thanks to ADMP I've seen dozens of films that I would have previously overlooked. Mr. Sherlock and Palcher, please do not change a thing; you will both go very far in your pursuits, over 200 episodes is proof of that. Thank you sirs and keep at it!

    Fantastic podcast
Always fun and fresh. Never pretentious. Best movie review podcast out there today.

    Great film podcast
The conversational tone is a joy to listen to. The movies they pick to compare are always interesting. Love this podcast!
  • AroundTheFur
    Such a relief!
The conversations and banter are energetic and lively while still being insightful and the elation the hosts project for what they do permeates every second. If you are a cinephile on ANY level, you owe it to yourself peruse the catalog of films they've reviewed, pick out one of your favorites, and enjoy listening to the hosts justify your own passion for said film.

    Awesome Show
One of the best podcast around!

Great Podcast - You Must Listen!
The Adams do an amazing job with this podcast. I am so impressed with their knowledge about not only the films they are reviewing, but the others that infiltrate their conversations. Their banter is perfectly balanced and easy to listen to. The conversation is great, and I have learned so much from listening to every episode I can get my hands on. I have listened to many of the movie podcasts on iTunes, and this is the best!
  • FooboyX
    Smart and relatable.
The Adams drink beer and talk movies. The approach feels like an evening conversation with friends about film. While the analysis may not rise to the level of a doctoral thesis, it is always clever, engaging and above all entertaining.
  • Kingcobra99
    Blabbering
A lot of blabbering with not real info or analysis of anything. The episode about the Fountain is revealing on how vacuous this podcast is. Unsuscribe. Delete.

I am a steady listener to a half-dozen or so movie podcasts. I must admit this is the most enjoyable one I listen to. As cliche as it might be to say, listening to these guys is like chatting with your friends after a great film. What sets it apart from other podcasts is it devotes it's time to "great film", not keeping up with current events (ie: right now while every other podcast is reviewing Hunger Games, these gents are tackling Do The Right Thing). I love their mash-ups. Recently I listened to an older show where they reviewed District 9 and The Fly (man - both spot on by the way). But perhaps best of all, they don't treat every show with this bravado like they're trying out for the next hosts on 'At the Movies'. They aren't afraid to go all Chris Farley gush-fest on a film when they really love it, and they're not afraid to say, hey - this just didn't work for me. (I would LOVE to hear them take on some of my fav's like Close Encounters and American Beauty. Keep up the great work gents!)

    Can't download some episodes
Found this podcast about a week ago and have been listening to it a lot. Great reviews and good info. My only gripe is that some episodes don't download. Example; raiders, rain man and many others. So when I am able to download I will give this a five star.

    Really underrated podcast

    To the point
I've searched for awhile for a podcast that talks about movies. Most others have been groups of people that ramble on and go off on tangents. Theses guys stick to the point and discuss all aspects of the film. Just wanted to say it's a great show.
  • Tesuansey
    Pretty good
I hate Sherlock sometimes. You know what I mean. And pleeeaase stop cracking open beers into the mic.

By far my favorite film podcast!
These are the kind of guys I want to hang out with and talk about films. Listening to this is like being in my living room shooting the bull with some fellas and cracking open a few beers. Heck, you even hear them cracking some open during the podcast. These guys are hilarious and insightful. I've been listening to them for almost 2 years now and I still look forward to each one. That's something I can't say for most podcasts. Yeah it gets racy at times but tell me you don't let some f-bombs fly when talkin' with your peeps. Also, listen past the ending music of each episode for "extra" commentary from the guys. Highly recommended!!

    Very Nice
A couple guys having conversation about movies, not trying to be cool or funny, just talking about movies, which you can tell they really love. They can be funny, insightful, entertaining... A lot of movie podcasts out there have no real substance, just a couple of j-offs, but these guys are really genuine. I also like the format of the show: talk about 2 movies, then a top 5 that's not too overlong. Nice job all around.
  • ritsn
Valuable insights if you can pick through the excessive #$@& crap
I agree with many of the views of the Adams, and would like to hear more than my initial podcast download, but I cringed at each f-ing excessive f-word. I can see (and say it myself) when it's called for for extreme emphasis, but not as a substitute for "really" or an easy way to show how "cool" one is. I almost turned the podcast off, but managed to hear your well-thought-out review of "The Road," a movie I avoided, but now love. The rest of the podcast - I didn't finish. And I won't be listening to another one for a while.

    A couple of great guys!
So I have just started listening to this little gem about 2 weeks ago (so far I've gotten through 1-40), and I must say...The two Adam's are just a cool couple of dudes! They're really insightful, thoughtful and any other 'fuls you can think of, and are just really easy on the ears and a really great listen! So, if you have nothing but time (as I do) at your job, or anywhere you would bring an iPod, do yourself a favor (if you like movies/films/cinema) and hear what these guys have to say. More often than not they'll shed new light on your favorite movie ^_^
  • Cenestrad
    Pretty good
I like this show even though it seems like a couple of guys talking about movies instead of the work of true cinephiles. The show could lose the explicit tag and be better if one the hosts would refrain from using the f word so darn much
  • CharlieSLC
    My favorite podcast
Supremely entertaining. Since subscribing I've never missed an episode. The Adams enthusiasm for movies is so apparent you can't help but be pulled in by these smart funny conversations.
  • pokeypokerson
    my favorite
this is one of the only podcasts I listen to every week, and when a week is missed (like that H1N1 fiasco) I miss hearing the Adam's engage in what is honestly some of the best movie talk out there. Just a fantastic podcast.
  • seberrett
Fun and free. What more do you want?
Enjoyable. These guys crack me up and I find myself agreeing with their opnions most fo the time. Also, have discovered and re-discovered a few forgotten screen gems. I hope these guys are around for a long time.
  • Dangerously
    Laid Back and Cool
Somewhere between film geeks and film snobs, these guys approach film criticism like 30-something Siskel and Eberts hanging out and getting drunk with their friends. Some audio mixing would make it a little more enjoyable to listen to in the car, but the Adams are so laid back and cool , you can't hold it against them.
  • travisrock
    adams are classy
these guys have swept me off my feet and become my new favorite podcast. i missed going to parties at kilby years ago and hearing sherlock's wit and wisdom on everything under the sun. now i get to listen to it weekly! palcher and sherlock make a great team, with some amazing homo-erotic undertones. ;)
  • ranchonmars
    Great Show!
This show takes a terrible movie like Howard the Duck and turns it into a laugh riot! Great insight and funny dialogue make this show one of the best out there. When too many podcasts try to sound professional this show thrives on giving you the impression that you're just listening to a great conversation amongst friends. Great work guys!
  • Large McNotsmall
    Witty
Witty banter, great incite, and impeccable taste in movies. I love this podcast. The Adamns are hilarious and have a nack for explaining the art of cinema. Plus the top five lists are filled with good films and have become my source for movies to see.
  • Hot Master
    My favorite podcast...period.
The transition from film to beer is seemless. there are lots of personal stories that go along with the reviews that make it feel like your listening to two dudes at a party. it's comforting, and it's presentation makes it feel like more than just a movie podcast.
  • Jer_S
    Great movie podcast
Fantastic listen. Give it a shot. Non-snobbish hosts who have fun talking about their favorite films
  • Captain Destroy
    Both Adams are awesome!!!!!!
Check out this podcast! These guys have good stuff to say about anything. Ask sherlock about the rock of gibraltar to be entertained for hours.
